KDIS Cloud Servers

Cloud Servers

The term Cloud Computing, when applied to the Keyfort Data Interchange Service (KDIS), describes a solution which removes the need for customer premises based servers in favour of a managed service accessible over a high-speed network connection.

The immediate benefits of such a solution are:

  • Significant cost savings due to the removal of the need for expensive inter-branch network connections, company computer servers and support thereof.
  • Reliability and resilience.
  • Speed of access.
  • Automated data backup.
  • Operational support and upgrades for the servers and network are included in the service.

By comparison, legacy client-server configurations would typically involve a server room at a company head office, managed and supported by an IT manager and team. Branch offices would require expensive network connections to the head office for access to the servers.

The major potential weak point of the latter configuration is the quality of the connection at the head office site. If it happened to be unreliable or slow, the impact on data services (and therefore the business as a whole) could be debilitating and costly.

Cloud based servers are placed in secure, serviced, custom-built locations with reliable, high-speed, high-bandwidth network connections.  Server operating systems, databases and software are installed and maintained by our staff and data is backed up according to automated schedules as required. This service alone can represent a considerable cost saving to the customer.
